The Statistic Guru
If I could be inside some ones mind for a day, one of the top contenders on my list would absolutely be: Hans Rosling. This Swedish professor has been invited to speak to so many world leaders at so many prestigious events that he must qualify as one of the world’s most wanted- that is speakers. His background is as a professor of global health, and as a physician spending many years in rural Africa. You pick the subject, this guy can probably talk anyone under the table.
My amazement doesn’t stop at the incredible research and understanding he gives to his presentations, but beauty and innovativeness that his colorful, playful and somewhat speculative point makes so powerfully in his slide shows. He must be classified as a statistic- nazi. In his story telling, broken-English- Swedified way he takes the listener on a journey through his statistics and thoughts with an amazing flow and humor.
Rosling’s believes that making information more accessible has the potential to change the quality of the information itself.
Start out with Washing Clothes
Many, many of his lecture are on you tube. If you are a starter, waiting to become a Hans Rosling fan, I suggest this important, yet easy going lecture from the TED show in 2010 as a great place to get to know Hans. The lecture, The Magic Washing Machine is about washing machines and lines: poverty lines, air lines and wash lines. I can almost promise you will laugh and never go away from one of his lectures without a newer insight.
